Following the agreement of an undisclosed fee between the Sky Blues and Burnley, the 22-year-old agreed a four-year contract with City.
Chester-born, Thomas spent time with Everton and Crewe Alexandra before signing with Burnley on a scholarship in 2017. He then came up through the ranks at the Clarets and made one appearance in the EFL Cup for the side in the 2020/21 campaign.
Following a loan at non-league Kendal Town, it was during that season that he had his first professional loan away from Turf Moor as Thomas made 21 appearances in League Two for Barrow, scoring 1 goal.
The 2022/23 season saw Thomas have loan spells at two sides in League One. He began the campaign at Bristol Rovers, where he would play 26 games in all competitions and score three goals.
During the January transfer window Thomas joined Barnsley on loan and he would feature prominently as the Tykes reached the League One Play-Off Final, playing 25 games and netting three times.
