"We need to get an identity and a way of playing, instead of hoping for the best." - Coventry City's Mark Robins

Sky Blues boss critical of his squad's fitness levels in the aftermath of MK Dons defeat...

Coventry City were beat 1-0 at the Stadium MK, with Stuart O’Keefe’s goal enough to earn the home side three vital points in their quest for safety.

City had chances to equalise in the second period, with Lameiras going closest, but weren’t able to make the breakthrough as Mark Robins continues to search for his first win since resuming the dugout.

He said: "It was better than midweek, we have to address things. We need to get an identity and a way of playing, instead of hoping for the best.

"I know we aren’t fit enough, we don’t get around the pitch for 90 minutes and at times it will cost us.

"It is very sad, there is some decent talent here, and the belief will come back if we play in that manner, but the pressure and momentum doesn’t build because we run out of steam.

"Certainly the two fullbacks needed replacing. There is still huge room for improvement but it was a bit better."

Despite acknowledging that the performance was an improvement on midweek, Robins has suggested that a fragile mentality is harming chances of getting a positive result.

He added: "Some players that played in the frontline today are young and potentially with us for next season, we’re trying to inject a bit of impetus and spark but they still don’t know the game. They’ve got to learn it.

"It nearly paid off, Lameiras put George through. But we either slipped, or a poor touch, but we also aren’t fit enough.

"They’ve tried, had a real go, and it is very frustrating. We’ll keep working at it because it must improve, we won’t shy away from that.

"They have been battered over months and months of not winning football matches, and at some point you’ve got to try and relieve that pressure."
