Three first-half goals from the Venetian side saw City lose their first game on their pre-season tour...

Coventry City lost their second Italian pre-season tour friendly against Serie A side Chievo Verona after three first-half goals from the Venetians sealed a 3-0 win.

With captain Reda Johnson and trialist Marcus Tudgay ruled out of today's game, Steven Pressley started George Thomas up front, partnering Shaun Miller, and Danny Seaborne partnered Jordan Clarke in central defence.

Chievo took the lead with just one minute on the clock as Christano Biraghi curled a 20-yard shot into the top corner after his initial free-kick hit the wall.

With a quarter of an hour gone, the Italians doubled their lead. The City defence were stretched by a good move down the left and Chievo forward Tomasz Kupisz headed home unmarked from a left-wing cross.

City did have chances as Shaun Miller sent his low shot narrowly wide in the 24th minute and Danny Swanson had a 20-yard free-kick go over the bar just four minutes later.

The Serie A side added a third five minutes later when Sergio Pellissier converted a penalty with a low finish.

After the break, City had a chance to get themselves back into the game when George Thomas was fouled in the area but Danny Pugh saw his low penalty saved.

With half-hour to go, Pressley brought on Aaron Phillips, Andy Webster, Ivor Lawton, Jack Finch and Billy Daniels to keep their City squad's fitness up for tomorrow's game against AEL Kalloni.

The Sky Blues had late chances to get on the score-sheet but the Serie A side claimed the victory at the Sanzeno di Montagna stadium.
