Baily Cargill adds to the Sky Blues' defensive options as they remain in the battle for a promotion place...
The Sky Blues were successful in a deadline day transfer for Bournemouth’s young centre-back, Baily Cargill who will join City until the end of the season.
The 20-year old signed his professional contract with the Cherries in 2012, after spending his youth career in the academies of Leicester City and Southampton and has now expressed his eagerness to support the Sky Blues in their hunt for promotion.
Cargill said: “My agent called me this morning, I got up here this afternoon, and happy that it’s all done.
“The main aim is obviously promotion, Coventry are in a good position at the moment and I am really pleased to be joining a team that is looking to get promoted.”
Cargill was called up to the England youth setup in 2014 alongside centre-back and fellow loanee Jack Stephens and the pair expressed enthusiasm to be among the same squad once again.
Cargill added: “We’re similar players, I know Jack [Stephens] from my time at England and he plays at Saints, which is only down the road.
“I look forward to playing with him.”
Tony Mowbray has acquired the left-footed centre-half to bolster his defensive options, as the Sky Blues come off the back of a shaky defensive run - conceding eight goals in the previous four league fixtures.
The 6"2 defender also caught the eye of the Sky Blues manager for his ability on the ball and range of passing, something that Mowbray is keen to encourage in his defensive line.
Cargill went on to say: “I like to get on the ball. Pick my passes and like to think I am good in the air.
“I think my main strength is my passing, so just looking forward to showing the fans what I am about.
“He [Eddie Howe] said some nice words about me being club captain at some stage in the future. He thinks it’s the right move for me to come out here and play some games.”
Cargill finished by commenting on the aim for his loan spell: “To gain experience and to take the Sky Blues to the Championship.”
