City's latest recruit speaks for the first time after his move to the Sky Blues...
After making his switch to the West Midlands permanent a few days prior, Yakubu made his City debut in the 1-1 draw against AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday night.
The striker came on for the final 25 minutes, replacing Marcus Tudgay, and brings a much revered reputation to the City ranks.
Reflecting on the move, the ex-Everton man said: “I’ve been training with Boreham Wood for the past four months and my agent spoke to me regarding a potential move to Coventry. I’ve been in England for so many years, and although I’ve had offers abroad I wanted to stay over here.
“It’s one of the big clubs in England and it’s a shame to see us where we are at this moment in time. I know it’s going to be a tough challenge but they have to get back to where they belong, starting with staying up this season.
“I’ve been training a while and keeping in shape, so hopefully it won’t be too long before I feel 100% again. I’m enjoying my time at the club so far and hopefully I can help the team move forward.”
‘The Yak’ brings with him a wealth of experience, and an incredible scoring record, dating back to 2003 when he joined Portsmouth in their former Premier League days.
The frontman has netted over 130 senior goals in England, during a nine year stint, playing in the top flight for Blackburn, Portsmouth, Middlesborough and Everton, and in the Championship for Leicester and Reading.
He added: “I always believe I can score goals, no matter what league. There is always pressure at a big club and if everybody believes in you, you don’t want to let them down, but I still believe I can do it.
“I spoke to the manager and he wanted me, you want to go to a place where you feel wanted and you know you have a chance to play and contribute each week. We have a good squad here with quality and I didn’t think twice about joining.
“In situations like these you have to win your home games. It’s not going to be easy, but you have to believe and give everything to the challenge.
