Coventry City went top of the League One table after a sensational first-half display helped them to a 4-1 win over Gillingham at the Ricoh Arena.
In front of the season's biggest crowd at the Ricoh Arena of 15,604, Jacob Murphy scored a magnificent ten minute first-half hat-trick and Ben Turner netted on his return to the club to give the Sky Blues a well deserved 4-0 lead at the break.
Bradley Dack netted for the visitors in the second-half but City never looked like letting anything slip as they went top of the League One table and extended their unbeaten run at the Ricoh Arena so far this season.
In a quite breathtaking first-half, the Sky Blues had the opener their play deserved when in the 33rd minute, moments after Jim O'Brien crucially headed one off the line, Murphy found himself clean through up the other end and he confidently rounded Stuart Nelson to squeeze the ball in at the near post.
City had their second just four minutes later, when Ryan Kent's high corner to the back-post was right on Turner's head at the back-post and the loanee nodded in with ease to double City's lead and score on his first game back for the Sky Blues.
The third goal came four minutes before the break, as O'Brien played a great ball to Murphy who again found himself one-on-one. The Ricoh Arena held its breath as Murphy rounded Nelson for the second time and again, the Norwich midfielder beat him and smashed the ball in from eight-yards.
A magical first-half was complete when the tireless John Fleck released Chris Stokes down the left, and the full-back kept calm to play a wonderful ball into Murphy's path and he sidefooted a lovely finish into the top corner from just outside the six-yard box.
The second-half started at a much slower tempo but with City still firmly on top, although a good block from Stokes prevented former Sky Blue Dominic Samuel from finishing in the box shortly after the interval.
Adam Armstrong then went close to a fifth as he got in behind and hit a firm effort against the right-post but Bradley Dack gave the visitors hope when he found space on the edge of the box and drilled a low effort into the bottom right corner two minutes after the hour mark.
But that hope never materialised into anything as City remained fairly comfortable seeing the game out and clocked up another win as they remain nine unbeaten in the league.
