Coventry City were defeated 3-2 by Port Vale in Tony Mowbray's first game in charge at the Ricoh Arena.

Goals from Jim O'Brien and Sanmi Odelusi weren't enough to give Mowbray a point in his first game in charge.

The opener came after just three minutes, when a good passing move eventually fell to O'Brien 25-yards out and he lashed a brilliant effort into the bottom left corner.

But it took Vale just four minutes to reverse the advantage, with their first goal coming on 40 minutes. Michael O'Connor hit a shot from the edge of the box which took a ricochet to the back-post, with Tom Pope there to tap in.

Their second came when Mark Marshall played a neat one-two with O'Connor and the former City man lashed a shot past Lee Burge from eight-yards.

The second-half started with little action and Mowbray looked to affect that by bringing on both Odelusi and Luke Williams for Marcus Tudgay and Adam Barton.

The subs worked as some excellent work on the half-way line from Frank Nouble found Odelusi who smashed a brilliant effort past Chris Neal inside the area within eight minutes of coming on.

But just seven minutes later, O'Connor scored Vale's third from a curling free-kick from 20-yards out and what proved to be the winner as Vale sat back to inflict defeat on Mowbray in his first game in charge.
