Coventry City were denied the opportunity to leapfrog Bradford City in League One in dramatic fashion after a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Coral Windows Stadium.
The Sky Blues found themselves two goals up after just seven minutes courtesy of Andy Webster's first senior goal for City and Leon Clarke's 12th of the season.
Bradford City's Nahki Wells restored parity though with a brace of his own before Callum Wilson snatched a third for City with a minute of the half to go.
Wells then rescued a point for the Bantams with a penalty with the last kick of the game to ensure a share of the points.
City boss Steven Pressley made just one change to his side for the clash in West Yorkshire with midfielder John Fleck returning from a one-match suspension to replace Adam Barton who took the Scotsman's place in City's 3-1 FA Cup first round win over AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow.
He could not have asked for a better start either as the Sky Blues found themselves a goal up in the very first minute. Skipper Carl Baker won a free kick 20 yards out and floated a deep delivery aimed for Leon Clarke.
Bradford 'keeper Jon McLaughlin tried to punch the ball clear but it only went as far as City defender Webster who half volleyed into the net from ten yards.
Six minutes later City doubled their lead after some great work from Wilson who dispossessed Stephen Darby and ran at goal, his poked finish saved by the legs of McLaughlin only for Leon Clarke to be on hand and fire home the follow up from the penalty spot.
Two was then nearly three just moments later when Wilson again dispossessed Darby and burst forward only for his effort to pop into the air with Bradford scrambling the ball behind for a corner.
Bradford nearly got one back after 16 minutes when a deep cross from Darby found James Hanson at the back post to head downwards, only to be denied by a superb point blank save by Joe Murphy.
For all of the Sky Blues' early possession though it was the home side that grabbed one back just a minute later. A long ball hung in the air and coaxed Murphy from his area to challenge Hanson. The ball fell loose to the feet of Wells who then showed a cool head to slot home and halve the Bantams' deficit.
It was Wells again just before the half hour as Bradford cancelled out City's early advantage. Hanson flicked a ball on with head into the path of Wells whose outstretched boot poked the ball past Murphy to level the score.
It was the Sky Blues who had the last say of the first half with a fantastic goal from Wilson. The striker gave chase to a ball down the the right flank from Baker and went round the outside of Matthew Bates before squeezing a finish into the tightest of spaces inside McLaughlin's near post for his 13th of the season with a minute of the half to go.
City came out for the second half trying to turn the screw and nearly got another four minutes after the restart when Franck Moussa's low drive from 20 yards was turned around the foot of the post by McLaughlin.
Wells continued to remind the Sky Blues of his threat though and that included set pieces when, after 56 minutes, his set piece effort bounced off the top of City's crossbar with Murphy rooted to the spot.
Bradford went close again with 17 minutes to go when floated cross from the right found Hanson on the edge of the six-yard area only for the burly forward to nod over the bar.
The final act of drama though was reserved for the last seconds of the game when the Sky Blues conceded a penalty for handball. Wells then stepped up to confidently convert the spot kick, secure his hat-trick and a point for the hosts.
