Coventry City fell to a 3-1 defeat at in-form Brentford after the home side overturned an early Sky Blues lead at Griffin Park.

Callum Wilson broke the 20-goal milestone to put the Sky Blues ahead after just five minutes and Alan Judge had a penalty saved by Joe Murphy six minutes later.

Two goals in four minutes from Clayton Donaldson and Marcello Trotta turned the game on its head for the home side before Alan McCormack added a third for Brentford midway through the second half.

Boss Steven Pressley rang two enforced changes to the side that drew 2-2 with Port Vale at Sixfields the previous weekend, bringing in Nathan Delfouneso and Franck Moussa to replace departed loanee Michael Petrasso and fellow loanee Chuba Akpom whi had only recently returned from European reserve duty with parent club Arsenal.

The Sky Blues got themselves off to a dream start after just five minutes when they found themselves infront against the in-form Bees. A swift switch of play from left to right ended with Carl Baker drawing across the box before firing at goal, Brentford 'keeper David Button parrying the effort but Wilson on hand to turn the loose ball home from close range.

The early goal understandably gave City a boost as they turned up the pressure and very nearly grabbed a second after nine minutes after Franck Moussa's burst into the box won a corner which was taken short to Cyrus Chrtistie, the full back trying to curl one inside the far post only to see Button turn the ball behind.

Brentford were then handed a golden opportunity to level the score after 11 minutes when Carl Baker was penalised for a foul on Alan Judge just inside the area with referee Gavin Ward pointing to the spot.

Joe Murphy was the hero from the spot for City yet again though when Judge stepped up to take the penalty and Murphy guessed the right way to deny him in front of nearly 1,400 travelling Sky Blues supporters.

The home side only had to wait another four minutes for their equaliser though and it was taken in clinical fashion by Donaldson who was set free by a through ball on the counter attack which allowed him to hold off Jordan Willis as he entered the box before poking a finish past the advancing Murphy.

Brentford then turned the game on its head after 19 minutes when Marcello Trotta fired them in front. He picked up a ball 20 yards out and worked his way across the edge of the area before firing low past Murphy inside his near post.

Despite the Sky Blues finding themselves behind so quickly though they never changed their game plan and continued to press and Wilson very nearly got his second after 33 minutes when Nathan Delfouneso held the ball up before playing a quick pass to his strike partner who tried to lift a finish over Button but also lifted it just over the bar.

City also started the second half in encouraging fashion when, just a minute after the restart, John Fleck's long range effort was tipped over the bar by Button.

The hosts' very next attack saw them stretch their advantage though when a flick on header from Trotta picked out McCormack who raced onto the end of the bouncing delivery and fired a half-volley finish past Murphy to make it 3-1.

Murphy was then required on 69 minutes when Donaldson found himself through but with an ever narrowing angle and when he pulled the trigger the City shot stopper was on hand to produce a solid leg save.

The Sky Blues nearly got themselves a goal back though with ten minutes to go when Cyrus Christie's low ball into the area was lashed at by Bees centre half Tony Craig who very nearly sliced his clearance past his own 'keeper.

It was the last real chance the Sky Blues had to close the gap on Brentfiord though as the hosts saw out the remainder of normal time plus three added minutes to take all three points.
